While fast food joints across the country have been fighting the âchicken sandwich warsâ for some time, Taco Bell has been teasing customers about their new Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco since February. After testing it out, itâll officially drop nationwide September 2nd.
If you missed it, somehow, Taco Bell says the Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco is ânot quite a sandwich, not quite a tacoâ and theyâre right â but itâs also what you probably imagine: Chicken thatâs been marinated in jalapeno buttermilk, seasoned with a Mexican spice blend and wrapped in a crunchy tortilla coating. Itâs served in taco-shaped âpuffy breadâ (like the Gordita shells you know) and itâs topped off with Taco Bellâs signature chipotle sauce. Doesnât sound spicy enough? You can also add slices of crunchy jalapenos.
Taco Bell is also having a bit of fun with the âis it a taco or a sandwichâ argument. The company is holding a "debate" between the University of Georgia and Clemson University football teams during the schools' September 4th game to decide. "Even the masterminds from our test kitchen couldn't decide if it was more taco or sandwich,â Taco Bell's global chief food innovation officer Liz Matthews says in a statement. âWhich is why we're excited to bring in the debate team experts to have some fun.â
