Daylight Saving Time Ends This Sunday

  • Plenty of Americans are gonna have their circadian rhythms disrupted this weekend when daylight saving time ends this Sunday at 2am. Don't forget to turn your clocks back one hour on November 7th.
  • Daylight saving time was originally championed by the Chamber of Commerce in 1915, knowing that "If you give workers daylight, when they leave their jobs, they are much more apt to stop and shop on their way home", according to late Tufts University Professor Michael Downing.
  • Every US state except Hawaii and Arizona observe daylight saving time while 19 states have enacted legislation to keep it year-round.
  • In the past, daylight saving time was touted as a way to save energy; people wouldn't have to spend money or candlewax or their light bills. But now that there are more ways than ever to consume energy, experts call it "a loser of an energy plan."
