Third of 1st year college students have moderate/severe depression/anxiety

  • A new study suggests that one-third of all first-year college students have moderate to severe depression and/or anxiety.
  • Students with a history of anxiety and depression were also four times less likely to recover from their mental health disorders throughout the year.

  • The study's author stressed that "university mental health policies, programs and practices, with the availability of clubs, societies and sporting activities are likely to be key in promoting student mental health and wellbeing."
