- The duty-free shop at Turkey's Istanbul Airport just sold a bottle of whisky for over $556,000! This wasn't just any bottle of hooch, though; it was a 55-year-old bottle of the rare Yamazaki 55 Japanese whisky, said to be the oldest in the world.
- Airline customers have been bidding on this bottle since December. Eight people made "valid offers" on the whisky but it was just purchased by an unnamed customer from China.
- The winning bidder actually got a pretty good deal on the bottle of Yamazaki. A similar bottle sold in Amsterdam for $770,000 and a bottle of the whisky is on sale right now for nearly a million bucks at Dekanta.com.
- Last year tickets to just taste this whisky sold for $25,000 per person.
