I have a kid going off to college this fall. The school won't allow Freshmen to have vehicles on campus.
At first, I thought this was a little odd. The school will only allow half of the students on campus during any term. Therefore, no shortage of parking. They also require students to be able to leave campus within 48 hours should the pandemic get out of hand. That's a little tough to do without a car.
On the other hand, I started thinking about all of the money saved by NOT having a car on campus.
No parking fees. No spending on gas and service. No friends asking for a ride. Fewer trips to the fast food restaurants.
Having no car may actually lead to spending less money. That would be a good thing.
