The “hold my beer” move that ended with a sinking surprise

You thought doing donuts in a parking lot was risky.

Let me introduce you to the advanced level of bad decisions, donuts on a frozen lake.

Yep. A guy in New Jersey took his truck out onto a frozen lake near Eagleswood (up the coast from Atlantic City) and started spinning circles like he was auditioning for a “Fast and Furious: Frostbite” sequel.

Then the ice said, “Absolutely not.”

The 911 call that says it all

Someone called 911 after spotting the roof of a truck sticking out of the ice. Just the roof. The rest of the truck was underwater.

And for a minute, nobody knew if the driver was still inside.

The good news, he got out. The head-shake part, he left the truck there like it was a broken shopping cart.

Yes, there’s video

Because of course there is.

It was dark, but you can see the moment the ice gives up. The back end drops, the truck shifts, and suddenly this “fun little stunt” becomes an expensive lesson in physics.

Also, for anyone keeping score at home, the average full-sized pickup weighs about three tons. That’s roughly 6,000 pounds of “this seemed like a good idea.”

Ice does not love that.

The mayor did not mince words

The mayor reportedly called it “stupidity at its finest,” which feels accurate and also like something you say when you have had it with everyone’s nonsense.

Here’s what the guy is facing

They have not released the guy’s name, but he’s 44. He’s facing charges for reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Also, he did not have a valid driver’s license. Because why stop at one bad decision when you can stack them like pancakes?

The part I can’t stop thinking about

Here’s my honest question.

What was the plan after the donuts?

Even if the ice didn’t crack, you still have to drive that truck back across the same ice. You still have to explain it to somebody. A spouse, an insurance company, your own common sense.

And if you are a mom, or the friend who always ends up being the “responsible one,” I know you felt your blood pressure rise reading this.

Because you can already hear it.

“It’ll be fine.”

Narrator voice, it was not fine.

Quick reminder, because I like you

If you see a frozen lake and your brain whispers, “I bet I could drive on that,” I want you to treat that thought like a spam text.

Do not click it.

This guy’s truck is a total loss, and he’s lucky the story ends with “he got out,” not something worse.
