The States Where Peeps Show Up Most and Least at Easter

Here’s something I didn’t know until today. The Easter Bunny plays favorites. At least when it comes to Peeps.

Some kids open their baskets and boom. Wall-to-wall Peeps. Other kids get none. Not one sad sugar bird in sight.

A site looked at search data and grocery delivery stats to see where Peeps actually show up. And the results surprised me.

First, the big picture.

Only about 1 in 5 Easter baskets has Peeps in it at all. That feels low for something that takes up an entire store aisle this time of year.

Now the wild part.

If you grow up in West Virginia, your basket has a 35% chance of getting Peeps. That is the highest in the country.

Right behind it is Pennsylvania, then a stretch of states that apparently respect the marshmallow. Wyoming, Wisconsin, Ohio, Alaska, Indiana, New Mexico, South Dakota, and New Hampshire.

On the flip side, kids in Arkansas and Montana almost never see them. Just 12.6% of baskets. That is basically a Peeps drought.

And if you are wondering where Peeps go to disappear entirely, look toward places like Hawaii, California, Oregon, Georgia, Florida, Washington, New York, and Virginia. Peeps exist there. They just don’t thrive.

If Peeps make you cringe, relax. The candy odds are in your favor.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs are the real Easter MVP. They show up in nearly two-thirds of baskets. Regular Reese’s Cups are close behind.

After that, chocolate runs the board. Cadbury Mini Eggs. Hershey’s Milk Chocolate. Cadbury Creme Eggs.

Only then do we drift into things like Sour Patch Kids, jelly beans, chocolate bunnies, and finally yes, Peeps. Hanging on. Barely.

But what about Nebraska and Iowa? Find out  HERE
