Steve Lundy Bio
Steve was born in Crete, Nebraska and raised in Fremont, Nebraska. He is a graduate of Fremont High School and Midland University with a bachelor’s degree in communications.
Steve Lundy’s radio career spans 49 years with 47 of those years spent entertaining the Omaha/Council Bluffs/Lincoln three-city area. He started as a college reporter, then “DJ” on his hometown radio station-KHUB in Fremont, Nebraska in 1977.
Steve quickly was hired by Eric Foxx at Top 40 blowtorch 59/WOW in 1978 and worked overnights then midday.
Former 60’s hit tv show “Shindig” host and 1290/KOIL Program Director/morning host Jimmy O’Neill hired Steve to do the afternoon show on 1290/KOIL.
Steve then went on to do his first morning show at the new “Lite 96 FM” in 1984 and has been sleep deprived since.
After a two-year stint in the late 80’s in Wichita, Kansas at top 40 KKRD, Steve returned to Omaha to host “The Breakfast Flakes” on the original Sweet 98 FM, a John Mitchell station.
In 2004, after 13 years of talk radio in Omaha at KKAR and Lincoln at KLIN, Steve finally got his first chance to be where his heartbeat for country music was satisfied, Kat 103.7/KXKT-FM in Omaha. Steve has been the morning host along with Gina Melton (“Steve & Gina in the Morning” for 22 years.
Steve (along with his morning show partner Gina) has won two (2) Academy of Country Music Awards, or ACMs, for Radio Personality of the Year-Medium Market and most recently the Country Music Association’s, or CMAs award for the same. Their staff also has won two (2) CMA Awards for Radio Station of the Year.
Steve was recently inducted into the Nebraska Broadcasters Association’s Hall of Fame. Steve is a member of the inaugural class of the Nebraska Radio Personalities Hall of Fame. He is a dedicated volunteer in the Omaha community. He is highly active in his church (Christ Community), having served in several different ministries and has volunteered as a mentor at the Compass Ministries after school program, a program that helps at-risk elementary students remain on track in the North Omaha area. He has been a contributor to the Children's Hospital Foundation in Omaha for 22 years. Steve has been named to the Millard West High School Hall of Fame and the Millard West Athletic Boosters Hall of Fame and served for six years on the Board of Directors of Millard West Baseball Inc., an organization that through fund-raising efforts makes American Legion Baseball affordable for young men of any economic background. Steve reads twice monthly to area elementary school children. He is an active Midland University alumni and booster for Midland University’s athletic and performing arts programs.
Steve has sung solos with USAF Heartland of America Band and sang a solo onstage with the late composer/musician Marvin Hamlisch at Lincoln’s Lied Center for Performing Arts.
Steve was given the “Key to the City” of Lincoln by then-Mayor, Coleen Seng. He has also been given the honorary title of "Admiral of the Great Navy of Nebraska" by then Governor, Ben Nelson.
Steve and his wife Terri Steyer have four children (and their wonderful spouses), seven grandchildren and three grand-doggies!
Gina Melton Bio
From the time she was nine years old, Gina Melton knew she wanted to be on the radio. There was just one hurdle: she was incredibly shy. With the gentle encouragement of her fourth‑grade teacher, Mrs. Craig, Gina found her voice—and she’s been using it with passion ever since.
A proud graduate of the University of Nebraska–Omaha, Gina began her career interning at local TV stations before going on to host Mom’s Everyday on the NBC affiliate through 2019. There, she connected with families across the community, sharing practical tips and spotlighting products that made life a little easier for moms.
But Gina always had her sights set on morning radio. Today, she’s living that dream. Alongside her on‑air partner, Steve Lundy, they recently celebrated an incredible 20 years together on the airwaves.
Over the course of their partnership, Steve and Gina have earned numerous honors, including:
- 2024 CMA Personalities of the Year
- Two ACM Awards for Medium Market Personalities of the Year
- CMN Hospital Persons of the Year for their dedicated work during the Children’s Nebraska Radiothon
- Seven CMA Award Nominations
- Eight ACM Award Nominations
Gina’s impact extends well beyond broadcasting. She received the Alumni Achievement Award from the University of Nebraska–Omaha and the American Red Cross “Hero in the Heartland” award for her meaningful contributions to Omaha’s nonprofit community. While recognition isn’t what drives her, she’s grateful for the acknowledgment from organizations she deeply respects.
Outside the studio, Gina is a devoted wife and the proud mom of four boys—and two beloved fur babies. She often jokes that running a busy household is easy compared to the whirlwind of her work, but she wouldn’t trade either for the world.
