Google has stepped up to bring the first feature film into The Sphere, in Las Vegas. With the help of Generative AI, Google is working to take the original 1939 classic “The Wizard of Oz,” and make it pop on the massive screen at The Sphere. As a point of reference on how momentous this task will be, the original film was shot in Technicolor and premiered with a 1.37:1 screen ratio, and appeared on movie screens that were 65-feet by 30-feet. The screen at The Sphere is 160-times larger and uses 64,000 LED tiles and 16K x 16K LED resolution. So, google is going frame-by-frame to create “ultra-high-definition imagery.” Sphere Entertainment CEO James Dolan admits that undertaking this project is “clearly a leap of faith” that Google can pull it off.
