If you could create your “perfect” day, what would it look like? While the answer will be different from person to person, a new study has come up with the formula for a perfect day, according to science.

  • Researchers from the University of British Columbia used data from the American Time Use Survey to do it.
  • Thousands of people took part in the survey, which looks at how they spend their time on more than 100 activities, including exercise, screen time and spending time with loved ones.
  • Using the “better than typical” rating as a sign of a good day, researchers were then able to come up with a breakdown of what makes a perfect day.

Here’s what a perfect day looks like, according to the study:

  • 1 hour for eating and drinking
  • 1.5 hours for socializing
  • 2 hours to hang out with friends
  • Another 2 hours for exercising
  • 6 hours to spend with family
  • Less than 15 minutes commuting to/from work
  • A short 6-hour workday
  • 1 hour for TV/phone/tablet/computer

The thing is, this doesn’t leave much time for sleeping and most of us don’t have the luxury of only working six hours a day or a 15-minute commute. But the biggest challenge for most of us? Definitely the screen time, because when was the last time you were on your phone for just one hour in an entire day?
