If you really want to be happy in your relationship, go ahead and pack on the PDA. Kissing and cuddling in public might make some people cringe, but new research finds it’s linked to greater relationship satisfaction.

According to a new study from the University of Silesia in Poland, couples who aren’t afraid of displaying some affection, like holding hands, snuggling and smooching, both in public and private, tend to be happier in their relationship. And it’s not just the romance that gets a boost. Researchers found that PDA is also linked to improved wellbeing, lower stress and even more satisfaction with life in general.

While not everyone will be comfortable making out with their partner in public, the benefits of getting a little cuddle in are worth it. Study authors point out that their research “underscores the importance of affectionate behaviors in romantic relationships.” They go as far as suggesting that “encouraging appropriate expressions of affection can strengthen romantic bonds.”
