A rare piece of the red planet is about to fetch a whole lot of green. One lucky Earthling with deep pockets is going to get the opportunity to own a piece of Mars. Sotheby’s is auctioning off the largest Martian meteorite ever found on our planet. Officially called NWA 16788, this 54-pound rock traveled 140 million miles through space before finally crashing down in the Sahara desert in 2023. It is one of about 400 meteorites on Earth that are confirmed to be from Mars. It will go up for auction in New York City on Wednesday and is expected to sell for up to $4 million.
