✈️ Flight Cuts Ahead: What You Need to Know Before Friday

If you’ve got a flight booked this Friday, you might want to double-check your itinerary. The Federal Aviation Administration (yep, the folks who keep our skies safe) just announced they’re cutting air traffic by 10% across 40 of the busiest markets in the country.

Why? It’s all about staffing—or the lack of it.

🛑 What’s Going On?

Thanks to the ongoing government shutdown, air traffic controllers are still showing up to work… but without pay. Yep, you read that right. These are the people guiding planes through the sky, and they’re doing it for free right now. As you can imagine, that’s not exactly sustainable.

So, to keep things safe (because safety always comes first), the FAA is scaling back. Fewer flights mean less pressure on the already stretched-thin controller teams.

📍 Which Airports Are Affected?

We don’t have the full list yet, but the FAA says they’ll release more details on Thursday. What we do know is that it’ll hit 40 “high-volume” markets. Think big cities, busy hubs, and places where delays can ripple across the country.

If you’re flying out of a major airport—Chicago, Atlanta, New York, L.A.—you might want to keep an eye on your airline’s alerts.

😬 What This Means for You

Expect delays. Possibly cancellations. And definitely some longer lines and grumpier travelers. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says more disruptions are likely, but the goal is to keep the airspace safe.

So if you’re traveling Friday:

  • Check your flight status early and often
  • Give yourself extra time at the airport
  • Pack snacks, patience, and maybe a good podcast
