Thanksgiving is all about family, food, and… panic in the kitchen. Cooking a turkey isn’t something most of us do every day, so when things get stressful, Butterball’s Turkey Talk-Line is there to help.

For more than 40 years, this hotline has been a holiday lifesaver. It started with just six experts and now has more than 50 ready to answer your turkey questions during November and December. On Thanksgiving alone, they handle over 10,000 calls.

The Wildest Questions They’ve Ever Gotten

Talk-Line expert Astrid Volpert says her most memorable call was from someone who wanted to wash and defrost their turkey at the same time—by putting it in the dishwasher.

Other unforgettable calls include:

• A turkey left outside to thaw… after animals got into it
• A man asking if chainsaw oil made his turkey unsafe to eat
• Someone wondering how to cook a turkey that had been frozen since 1969
• A caller asking if they could slow-roast the bird for days to keep the aroma going
• And one “helpful tip”: wrap the turkey in a towel and stomp on it to make it fit in the pan
