If the idea of giving yourself a shot every week makes you cringe, youâre not alone. And now, thereâs another option.
Wegovy, one of the most talkedâabout weight loss medications, is officially available as a pill. Novo Nordisk rolled it out shortly after getting the green light from the FDA, and people are already buzzing about it.
Whatâs New About the Pill?
The pill version works similarly to the injectable form, but you take it daily instead of weekly. It comes in several doses, starting at 1.5 mg and eventually going up to 25 mg for longâterm use.
The starter dose is already on pharmacy shelves. The higher doses are expected to follow soon.
How Much Does It Cost?
Hereâs the part everyone wants to know.
The pill runs about $349 a month for people paying cash. Novo Nordisk is offering discounts for new patients through March, which may help soften the blow a bit.
And the competition is heating up. Eli Lilly is working on its own oral GLPâ1 medication, expected to start at $149. So the price conversation may shift once that hits the market.
Why People Are Talking About It
A lot of folks who were hesitant about injections are more open to a pill. It feels familiar, itâs easy to take, and it fits into a normal morning routine.
Plus, with weight loss medications becoming more common, having more options makes it easier for people to find what works for them.
The Bottom Line
If youâve been curious about Wegovy but didnât love the idea of needles, this new pill might be worth asking your doctor about. Itâs prescriptionâonly, so youâll need to talk with a healthcare provider to see if itâs a fit.
More options, more flexibility, and definitely more conversation around weight loss medications.
