If youâve ever torn apart your house looking for your keys, your bag or that one backpack your kid swears they âjust had,â Apple has a little gift for you. The AirTag finally got an update for the first time since 2021, and the new version brings some real improvements.
Letâs walk through whatâs new so you can decide if itâs worth tossing the old ones in your junk drawer.
A Bigger Search Range
The new AirTag boosts Precision Finding by about 50 percent. That means you can track down your stuff from farther away, which is great if your keys somehow end up in the backyard again. No judgment.
Louder and Easier to Hear
Apple also cranked up the volume. The secondâgeneration AirTag is 50 percent louder, and the chime is more distinct so it stands out in noisy places. Think airports, busy houses or the inside of your car when everyoneâs talking at once.
Sharing Just Got Easier
One of the most helpful updates is how smoothly it works with the Share Item Location feature in iOS. You can now let trusted people see where your tagged items are. Perfect for partners, babysitters or anyone who needs to grab something on the go.
What About the Old AirTags?
Good news. The firstâgeneration AirTags still work and are still being sold. But retailers are starting to stock the new ones, priced at $29 for a single tag or $99 for a fourâpack.
If youâve been thinking about adding a few more to your collection, this might be the time.
