The Shamrock Shake Is Back — and It Brought a Friend
If your February feels a little… blah, McDonald’s is here to fix that. The Shamrock Shake is officially returning on February 17th, and honestly, it’s one of the best signs that spring — and St. Patrick’s Day — are on the way.
A Minty Tradition More Than 50 Years Strong
This bright green treat has been around longer than most of us. A Connecticut franchisee created it back in 1967, and by 1970 it was a national hit. Since then, it’s become one of McDonald’s most anticipated limited‑time menu items. People plan their whole month around it.
And This Year… It’s Not Alone
Along with the classic mint shake, the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry is also making a comeback. Think creamy vanilla soft‑serve, mint syrup, and Oreo cookie pieces blended together. It’s basically the Shamrock Shake’s cooler, crunchier cousin.
Why We Love It So Much
Maybe it’s the nostalgia. Maybe it’s the color. Maybe it’s the fact that it only shows up once a year. Whatever the reason, the Shamrock Shake has earned its spot as a seasonal icon. And grabbing one feels like a tiny celebration.

Both treats hit McDonald’s menus nationwide on February 17th. If you’re a once‑a‑year mint shake person, this is your moment. If you’re more of a McFlurry fan, the Oreo version is waiting for you.
Either way, it’s a sweet way to kick off St. Patrick’s Day season.
