If you’ve ever spent five minutes around kindergarteners, you know they have a lot to say. And they want to say it right now. About everything.

One teacher finally found a way to keep her students feeling heard without being interrupted every ten seconds. Her secret is something she calls the tattlephone, and honestly, it might be the cutest classroom hack ever.

Why She Needed a New System

Kindergarten teacher Laurel Bates says her students were constantly running up to her desk to report every tiny detail of their day. She was trying to work one-on-one with kids, but the tattling never stopped.

She didn’t want to shut them down. She just needed a way to let them share their feelings without derailing the whole class.

Enter: The Tattlephone

The tattlephone looks like an old-school rotary phone, but with buttons instead of a dial. After a quick lesson on how to use it, her students were ready.

When they pick up the receiver, they hear her recorded message: “Mrs. Bates can’t come to the phone right now. Please leave your tattle, and I’ll check it as soon as possible.”

And just like that, the classroom drama goes straight to voicemail.

Kids Feel Heard, and the Teacher Stays Sane

Bates says the phone has been a game changer. Her students feel like their concerns matter, and she gets to keep teaching without constant interruptions.

It’s also helping them learn the difference between reporting something serious and tattling about something small.

The Tea These Kids Are Spilling

Of course, the voicemails are priceless. Bates shares some of the funniest ones on TikTok, with names changed to protect the tiny storytellers.

A few favorites: • “Beckham was being bossy and said he’s the leader of everyone even though he’s not.” • “Samantha said ‘Scram!’ to Maverick.” • “Evan has two erasers in his pencil pouch.”

Honestly, this is the kind of content that could brighten anyone’s day.
