We all have that one person who can turn a perfectly good day into a stress spiral. Maybe it’s the coworker who nitpicks everything. Maybe it’s the friend who always brings drama. Maybe it’s a family member who treats every conversation like a complaint hotline.
Well, here’s a fun twist. They might be making you older.
Meet the “Hasslers”
Researchers have a name for these people: hasslers. They’re the folks who add friction to your life. The ones who raise your shoulders to your ears the second they walk into the room.
And according to a new study, each additional hassler in your life is linked to a 1.5 percent faster rate of aging. That’s roughly nine months of extra biological age. Not ideal.
Why This Happens
Scientists say stressful relationships can crank up inflammation in your body. Over time, that inflammation can mess with your immune system. Think of it like your body constantly being on high alert. It wears you down.
Your body doesn’t just feel older. It becomes older.
What You Can Do
You don’t have to cut everyone out of your life, but it might be worth noticing who drains you and who fills you up. Even small boundaries can make a big difference.
A little less stress. A little more peace. And maybe a little less aging.
