Beware of "pump-switching" ...
Gas prices are up, and scammers are using a scheme called “pump-switching.”
A stranger approaches you at the pump and tries to distract or help, then keeps control of the nozzle so your credit card transaction stays open.
After you leave, they use the same pump to fill another car, taking cash while the charges go to your card—sometimes until it’s maxed out.
Victims often don’t notice for days. To protect yourself, police advise always return the nozzle, confirm the transaction is finished, get a receipt, and
avoid engaging with strangers at the pump.
