A shelter in Anchorage started a program called “Tails on Trails” that lets volunteers take dogs out for short adventures—like walks or hikes—for up to two days. It gives the dogs a break from being cooped up and helps them feel more relaxed and “at home.”
It’s been really popular, with hundreds of people signing up. Dogs are matched with volunteers based on personality, so it’s a good fit—even for families with other pets.
The result? Happier dogs, more community involvement, and faster adoptions—so more dogs are finding homes sooner.
