If you’ve ever wished your dog could stay by your side just a little longer, you’re definitely not alone. And now, there might be some real hope on the horizon.
A company called Loyal says it’s developed a pill that could add about a year to a dog’s life. They’re getting ready to submit it to the FDA, which is a big step toward making it available to pet owners.
The drug, called LOY‑002, works alongside a strict diet. Loyal says the pill helps dogs naturally eat less, which may support a longer lifespan. It’s not about starving your dog — it’s about helping their bodies work more efficiently as they age.
More than 1,000 dogs have been part of the trials, and the early results look good. Loyal says the data shows real potential for extending a dog’s life by at least a year. For anyone who’s ever counted down the years with an aging pup, that’s a pretty big deal.
There’s growing research suggesting that calorie restriction can support longevity in animals. Loyal is trying to tap into that science in a safe, controlled way. Think of it as helping your dog’s body age a little more gracefully.
The company says it’s “on the verge” of submitting the drug for FDA approval. That process takes time, but it’s a major milestone. If approved, this could be one of the first longevity‑focused medications for pets.
