"Think mascots just show up at games? Think again. Some of your favorite college characters are making six figures on the side.
A new report from FOIAball.com looked at how much money college mascots bring in from special appearances. Think weddings, corporate events, charity runs, birthday parties, and pretty much anywhere someone wants a giant smiling character to show up.
The numbers are wild.
🥇 Brutus the Buckeye Takes the Crown
Ohio State’s Brutus the Buckeye is the reigning champ. He made 518 appearances last year. That’s more than one event a day. His total? Over $130,000.
Not bad for a guy with a giant nut for a head.
🥈 Goldie the Gopher Isn’t Far Behind
Minnesota’s Goldie the Gopher booked 264 appearances, including 16 weddings. Imagine saying “I do” with a giant gopher cheering you on. Goldie pulled in just under $120,000.
🥉 Sparty Shows Up for the Big Moments
Michigan State’s Sparty made fewer appearances — only 22 — but 18 of those were weddings. Even with the smaller schedule, he still earned just under $100,000.
