If you love a good Vegas buffet, brace yourself. Another longtime favorite on the Strip is shutting down, and this one might surprise you. We’re talking about the MGM Grand buffet.
After more than 30 years o the buffet at the MGM Grand is shutting down on May 31. It first opened in 1993.
Buffets used to be a clever casino strategy. Feed people a lot of food for a little money, keep them happy, and send them right back to the slot machines. But the business model doesn’t work the same way anymore.
Casinos now make most of their money from shows, high‑end restaurants, and of course, gambling. Buffets tend to lose money, and in a city where every square foot has to earn its keep, they’re becoming harder to justify.
If you’re a buffet loyalist, you still have a few options left, but the list is shrinking. And if you loved the MGM Grand buffet specifically, you’ve got until May 31 to grab one last plate of mac and cheese or cheesecake.
