If it feels like gas prices are draining your bank account, youâre not imagining it. While you canât control world events or oil markets, you can control one thing that actually helps: the day you fill up.
And yes, it really matters.
The fuelâtracking app GasBuddy looked at price patterns across the country and found something interesting. Gas prices donât stay steady during the week. They slowly climb from midweek through Friday, then dip again on Sunday.
So if youâre filling up on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, youâre probably paying more than you need to.
The Cheapest Day
Sunday. Thatâs the day when prices tend to reset and drop in anticipation of the new week. If you can wait until then, your wallet will thank you.
The Most Expensive Days
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. By the time the weekend hits, prices have usually crept up. Itâs not a huge jump, but itâs enough to notice over time.
How Much You Can Save
Avoiding the pricier days can save you about 4 to 9 cents per gallon. It doesnât sound like much, but if youâre filling up regularly, it adds up fast.
