If you’ve ever stood in the cereal aisle staring at 200 boxes like you’re choosing a life partner, you’re not alone. Breakfast cereal is personal. It’s comfort. It’s childhood. It’s also… kind of controversial depending on who you ask.

A new study from Concordia University in Minnesota looked at Google Trends to figure out which cereal each state searches for the most. And the results are pretty fun to dig into.

The Big Winner: Froot Loops

Froot Loops took the crown in 13 states, making it the most‑searched cereal in the country. We’re talking Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, and Virginia.

If you’re curious about how search trends work, you can explore Google Trends basics or check out breakfast food trends.

Second Place: A Tie Between Classics

Rice Krispies and Cheerios each topped searches in five states. Honestly, that tracks. One snaps, crackles, and pops. The other is basically the comfort sweater of cereals.

Third Place: Trix

Trix showed up strong in four states, proving that fruity cereal nostalgia is alive and well.

In Iowa the most popular cereal: Cap N Crunch

In Nebraska Lucky Charms

Even though we clearly love talking about cereal, we’re not buying as much of it. According to Nielsen IQ, cereal sales dropped from 2.5 billion boxes in 2021 to 2.1 billion in 2025. That’s a 13% dip, and concerns about sugar and processed ingredients are a big part of it.

Here’s the full breakdown of America’s most‑searched cereals:

  • Froot Loops — 13 states
  • Rice Krispies & Cheerios — 5 states each
  • Trix — 4 states
  • Cinnamon Toast Crunch — 3 states
  • Honey Bunches of Oats — 3 states
  • Cookie Crisp — 3 states
  • Golden Crisp — 2 states
  • All with 1 state each:Cocoa Puffs, Cap’n Crunch, Corn Flakes, Frosted Mini Wheats, Corn Pops, Apple Jacks, Wheaties, Honeycomb, Cocoa Pebbles, Fruity Pebbles, Special K, Lucky Charms
