On Friday night, some students were surprised and upset to find a live tiger at Christopher Columbus High School's jungle-themed prom at a hotel near Miami (Fla.) International Airport. School officials initially defended their decision to have the tiger on hand, while denying allegations that it was being mistreated. On Monday, however, the school reversed course, releasing a statement which read, "Upon reflection, we regret the decision to have live animals at our prom." The Miami Herald reports that a fox, a lemur and two parrots also attended the prom.
