6-year-old's mission of love for animals!

After Jennifer McConn rescued her dog Luna from a Texas “kill” shelter in 2015, she got really involved with volunteering at the local shelter. She started including her son, Roman, because he had a big heart for saving animals, too. After a move to Washington state, they started Project Freedom Ride, which helps dogs in Texas shelters relocate to the Pacific Northwest to find permanent homes.

"I would joke with Texas Rescues about an underground railroad for dogs up to Washington because the world for a dog, generally speaking, was so much better up here in Washington than down there in Texas," McConn says.

Roman is only six, but he helps his mom make videos of the animals available for adoption, explains their breed, age, and why they should be adopted. Project Freedom Ride partners with multiple shelters in Texas that save strays, unwanted dogs and dogs from kill shelters and helps them find new homes in the Pacific Northwest, and so far their effort has saved 1,050 dogs, including two who are now Roman’s.
