Florida Man Says He Wasn't Drinking While Driving, Just at Stop Signs

A Vero Beach, Florida, man was recently arrested for driving under the influence--but told police that he was only imbibing at traffic signals and stop signs. TC Palm reports that police were alerted to 61-year-old Earle Stevens Jr. two weeks ago when a driver called 911 to report that his car repeatedly tapped her bumper while they were in a McDonald's drive-thru lane. They found that he had an open bottle of Jim Bean bourbon in the passenger seat of his vehicle. Stevens told them that he was feeling "pretty good," but answered "no" when asked if he'd been drinking and driving. When taken to the the Indian River County Jail, breath tests measured his blood alcohol content at 0.153 and 0.147--greater than the 0.08 legal limit. Stevens said prior to his arrest in Florida, he'd had two earlier DUI charges from Missouri.
