A Florida history teacher with stage III colon cancer needed more sick days for chemotherapy, so he asked for help and has been blown away by the response. Robert Goodman used up all his paid sick days while undergoing surgery and chemo and figured he needed around 20 more to get through more chemo. So he took to Facebook and posted a selfie and an appeal for help.
In just four days, Goodman got enough sick days donated to cover him for a whole semester. Teachers, staff members, administrators, and lunchroom workers who pay into the Florida retirement system gave him 75 of their sick days.
"I wasn't surprised that teachers were giving. Teachers are always giving all the time," Goodman says. " When one of their own needs help they'll always step up.”
