Nurse Discovers New Doctor Is Preemie She Cared For 28 Years Ago

Vilma Wong has been working as a nurse in the NICU at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in Palo Alto, California for 32 years. When new doctor Brandon Seminatore started working there, she felt like she knew him and a friendly conversation revealed she was right.

They were talking when Brandon said that he was born in that hospital and it all started clicking. “I got very suspicious because I remember being the primary nurse to a baby with the same last name,” Vilma explains. “I asked him if his dad was a police officer and there was a big silence and then he asked me if I was Vilma.”

It turns out, Vilma had been the primary nurse for Brandon 28 years earlier when he was born prematurely at 26 weeks. His mother asked him to look for nurse Vilma in the NICU, but he thought she’d probably retired and didn’t. Vilma even had a photo of the two taken while she was caring for him as a newborn.

“I’ve come full circle,” Brandon says, “and I’m taking care of babies with the nurse who took care of me.”
