Hollyn is a gentle soul looking for a forever family!

Hollyn

Hi, my name is Hollyn!  I am a beautiful 8 year old Yorkie with a gentle soul.  I was released from a commercial breeding facility, where I spent many years making puppies.  My favorite place to be is a warm lap where I can have lots of ear rubs.  I have an adorable smile when I am excited!  I enjoy being outside and am really curious about all the new sights and sounds around me.  I am crate-trained and love to nap in my crate with the door open.  At night, I prefer to sleep with my humans.

As I’ve never been a pet before, I am puppy-like in my need to learn house manners.  I stay dry in my crate so when I’m out and about my foster family keeps an eye on me to prevent accidents and encourage me to go outside or on my potty pad indoors.  I should do well with consistency and positive reinforcement.  I would do best in a home with a securely fenced yard and with a companion dog that will encourage my confidence.  Since I’m a bit shy and can scare easily, a home with small children might be overwhelming for me.

Since coming into rescue in August, I have been diagnosed with collapsing trachea, which is fairly common in Yorkies.  I will need a home that understands the needs of dogs with this condition.  At this time, my coughing occurs mainly when I am overly excited or out of breath.  It is important that my forever family understands that I will need to maintain a healthy weight and exercise will be good but in short bursts without a whole lot of excitement (I am not going to want to train for a 5k).  A home with a minimal amount of stairs to climb would be best.  So far, my heart is a little large (also common with tiny dogs with this condition) but I have no heart murmurs, no obvious issues moving blood through my lungs and body and my bloodwork is normal.  To keep my coughing to a minimum, I don’t wear a collar and will need a home that is free of smoke and other heavy fragrances.  When I have more pronounced coughing spells, I am helped by cough medicine and oral steroids which my mama gives me in a pill pocket.  I love treats!

My adoption fee is $250, or $200 if I’m adopted by a senior.  I will come up to date on all of my vaccines, microchipped, and spayed. If you think we might be a good fit, please complete my application.

Little White Dog Rescue has a meet and greet on Saturday, September 22 from 12-2 pm.  Come see us at Farm to Market in Bellevue (209, Galvin Rd, North) to find your new furry friend.
