Netflix is currently streaming a ton of scary movies that will help you get in the Halloween spirit. According to Mental Floss, here are the 14 best:

  1. The Shining (1980). Based on Stephen King’s 1977 novel, this film stars Jack Nicholson as aspiring writer and recovering alcoholic Jack Torrance. After a winter storm leaves the Torrances snowbound at the Overlook Hotel, Jack's sanity deteriorates due to the influence of the supernatural forces that inhabit the hotel.
  2. Emelie (2015). A young boy tries to protect his two siblings when their new babysitter starts to reveal her psychotic nature.
  3. Se7en (1995). Morgan Freeman plays retiring police Detective William Somerset, who is tracking a serial killer (Kevin Spacey) who is targeting people he thinks represent one of the seven deadly sins.
  4. The Strangers (2008). Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman star as a couple terrorized by a trio of killers who seem to have that most frightening of motivations: None at all.
  5. It Follows (2014). After carefree teenager sleeps with her new boyfriend for the first time, she learns that she is the latest recipient of a fatal curse that is passed from victim to victim via sexual intercourse.
  6. The Sixth Sense (1999). Bruce Willis plays a child psychologist treating a boy (Haley Joel Osment) who claims to see ghosts. The third-act twist still holds up.
  7. The Witch (2015). This tale of a 1630s outcast Puritan family troubled by paranormal activity tends to be divisive.
  8. Hellraiser (1987). An undead, skin-stripped man begs his onetime mistress for refuge while he tries to avoid the torturing hands of Pinhead, an extra-dimensional being from the depths of hell.
  9. The Conjuring (2013). This retelling of one of the famous haunted house cases from ghost hunters Ed and Lorraine Warren is a chilling roller coaster ride.
  10. Gerald’s Game (2017). A romantic weekend retreat with her husband turns into a claustrophobic struggle for survival for Carla Gugino after he drops dead and she's left handcuffed to their bed.
  11. The Invitation (2015). This film follows a man who is invited to his ex’s dinner party, which takes a turn for the weird.
  12. Oculus (2013). This one tells the story of a mirror that threatens to undo the sanity of those who peer into it.
  13. Train to Busan (2016). A workaholic father and his daughter board a train bound for one of the few territories in South Korea not occupied by zombies. To get there, they’ll have to survive the infected passengers.
  14. The Nightmare (2015). This examination of sleep paralysis features dramatizations of the people, creatures, and things sufferers sometimes see when immobilized.
