Lauren Alaina confirmed on social media Sunday that her stepfather Sam Ranker has passed away following a battle with cancer. “My stepdad, Sam, went to heaven at one o’clock this morning,” Alaina captioned a family photo on Instagram. “He was the purest example of how to love and live life fully. His last few hours were some of the most amazing moments I know I will ever have the privilege of witnessing.” According to Taste of Country, Alaina announced in June that her stepfather was in the midst of battling Stage 4 cancer. The family kept fans updated about his condition via a GoFundMe page, with the most recent entry from late September noting he was weak from treatments. Alaina canceled two shows in Texas over the weekend so she could be with her family.
