It's logical to assume that Costco employees check customers' receipts at store exits to prevent theft. But that assumption would be incorrect, as The Cheat Sheet reports that Costco employees check receipts in order to spot cashier errors. As one former employee recent told Quora, she never nailed anyone for shoplifting during her receipt checks in 12 years on the job, but frequently noticed cashier errors. The ex-employee adds that wannabe shoplifters, who go to great lengths to conceal expensive electronics and the like, are almost always nabbed before they head for the exit.
