Remember Emile Ratelband, the 69-year-old motivational speaker who asked a Dutch court to allow him to legally identify as a 49-year-old? Well, despite the fact that Ratelband clearly feels 20 years younger than he actually is, on Monday that court rejected his request. “Mr. Ratelband is at liberty to feel 20 years younger than his real age and to act accordingly,” Arnhem Court said in a press statement . “But amending his date of birth would cause 20 years of records to vanish from the register of births, deaths, marriages, and registered partnerships. This would have a variety of undesirable legal and societal implications.” Ratelband responded by pronouncing the decision "great," adding that it gives him "all kinds of angles where we can connect when we go in appeal." As the AP notes, Ratelband is something of a positivity guru, so his rose-colored response isn't all that surprising.
