Germs are everywhere, but these tips can help you deal with them!

Winter has only just started, so while the holiday season is over, cold season has a long way to go. With germs everywhere, it’s tough to stay healthy, but these tips can help protect you and your family from getting sick.

  • Make some homemade juice - Store-bought juice is packed with sugar, which isn’t great for your immune system, so buy the fruit and make a healthier version yourself. Orange and grapefruit are excellent for vitamin C and toss in some beets and carrots to reduce inflammation, too.
  • Create “sick zones” in your home - If some family members are sick and others are trying to avoid breathing in their germy air, cough and cold expert Dr. Alanna Levine suggests designating “sick zones” in your house. Keep the coughers and sneezers in one area to decrease the chance of spreading germs and hopefully keep you healthy.
  • Teach kids to sneeze into their arms - There isn’t always time to go running for a tissue before each sneeze, especially for little ones. So show the kiddos how to catch a sneeze in the crook of their arm, which is basically like a built-in shield to stop germs from spreading.
  • Set an early bedtime - Getting plenty of rest is one of the best ways to help the body fight off germs, so send those kids to bed early. They’ll get the extra rest their bodies need to fight sickness and you’ll get the bonus of a little extra time for yourself.
  • Hang eucalyptus in your shower - Buy a bundle of fresh eucalyptus and tie it to your showerhead. The steam from your shower will work with the plant’s antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties to create a stress-relieving, spa-like atmosphere that fights germs, too.
