Foster Family Helps terminally ill dog cross items off his bucket list

A family in Illinois is helping a terminally ill dog cross items off his bucket list and they’re making everyday an adventure for him.Jenny Leech and her family brought home Theo the golden retriever for end-of-life hospice foster care after he was found abandoned in a Walmart parking lot. The 12-year-old dog has cancer and because of his age and the progression of his cancer, he’s not eligible for surgery, but is on medication to slow the spread and manage his pain.

They’re not sure how long Theo has left, but they’re making the most of his remaining days by filling them with fun experiences. Despite his cancer, Jenny says Theo is “sweet, happy and loving with a huge zest for life.” So far they’ve treated him to a day at the beach, a drive-in movie night, some tasty meals of burgers and a steak dinner, and he’s even become an honorary K9 member of a local police department.

Theo’s bucket list adventures are shared on a Facebook page and his followers share their ideas for his next escapades. Someone offered to take him on a boat ride and someone else took Theo for a ride in his Mustang convertible. “I think people are looking for things and ways to feel good,” Jenny says. “And he’s giving people that chance.”
